So, what exactly does come in a digital scrapbooking kit? We get asked this question all the time, so I thought I’d put together something
that helps those of you deciding to buy your first kit or comparing our kits to those you might find elsewhere.
Like traditional paper scrapbooks, there are four main components that are used to create a digital scrapbook page: background papers,
primary elements, text elements, and embellishment elements.
Most of the kits we offer provide enough background papers and elements to create from 3 to 6 complete and unique scrapbook pages. A
background paper provides the canvas onto which all the rest of the elements are to be placed. Often, a background paper will have a color
scheme or style that coordinates with other elements present in the same kit. This offers a novice scrapbooker an easy way to rapidly
assemble appealing finished pages.
Primary elements are the core images that relate to the theme of the entire kit. Especially in our country-specific kits, primary elements
comprise maps, country outlines, culturally significant places or objects, and other similar images. These are generally used as the
primary building blocks for layouts, although they could also be used as embellishments or accents if one applies scaling, textures, or
other effects.
Text elements are words, phrases, or alphabets for the kit’s theme. Many of our kits include foreign alphabets, common characters for
languages like Chinese or Korean, traditional poems, catchy expressions, or adoption-related words. These often use fonts or graphics that
are not available on a typical computer system and are ready for inclusion on a background paper.
Finally, embellishments are photo objects that are included to provide textures or accents similar to those found on a paper page. Common
examples include brads, eyelets, buttons, staples, paperclips, and beads. Some kits may include color-coordinated sets of these in various
colors to coordinate with color themes of the background pages. The embellishments are a great way to add style and make digital pages look
more like traditional paper pages.
To help you better understand their composition, all of our kits include a detailed list of the types, descriptions, and quantities of the
contained elements.
Content Quality Standards
In any good digital scrapbook kit, you should expect that its contents meet these standards:
- Licensed for personal use
- Images are at least 200 dpi (dots per inch), with 300 dpi preferred
- Images are at least 16-bit color depth
- Contains a document offering setup, usage, or other instructions
